Many vendors and good prices on equipment. The vendors really know their products and are very generous with their knowledge - most all of them are beekeepers. The garden hive competition was a real duel of creative minds. Money was raised for a middle school bee project by everyone "voting' for their favorite with a quarter. Four of the entries were later auctioned to raise additional funds.
On Saturday afternoon, I helped to auction off several donated items. I did the smaller items - UP mead from John and Mellisa at the Algomah Meadery, some UP honey , etc. The real pro of an auctioneer, Jerry Mast, did the hives and extracting equipment. Lots of bidding and a good time by all.
My "veil is off" to the organizers of the event: Pres. Terry Toland, Treas. Steve Tilmann, Sect. Don Schram and V.P. Ann Leonard with big help from some spouses. They already have their sights set on future events (fall conference 2013).
The voice of beekeepers in this state is expressed through the Michigan Beekeepers Association. Go to their site for information on membership and lots of useful information.
A few photos of the conference follow.
