Check out the Bee Resources---beekeeping lessons. Thank-you to new beekeeper Brian Kelly's research that led to the site. The lessons are short and well done.
The bees have been quite active the past week. Pollen sources continue to expand. You might consider a water source for your bees-- it has been pretty dry.

Hi Joel! I just found your blog through Jess' email and I am thrilled that you are keeping the blog for us northern bee people! I read a couple of other "bee keeper blogs" but one is in Georgia and the other So. California. They are really interesting and I learn some things but not all applies. One of my 2 colonies survived the winter and I am adding 2 more. I'm going to take a close look at the one active hive to see how much pollen they are bringing in. I fed them some extra honey I had in March. Glad you are close by!

More pollen seems to be coming in every day. We still need to keep a close eye on food levels and take appropriate action as necessary.

Good bloody question. They didn't starve, thats for sure. The honey I gave my surviving colony is what I took from the dead hive. Both survived the winter before and I didn't do anything different. Need to think on that.
