This top bar was almost full sooooo I decided to take several bars of honey ---back to where the brood comb ended. There is plenty of time for them to rebuild &replace the honey. For a 1st year hive, I am impressed with the strength & productivity of the top bar hive. Both of my tb's have been very easy to work. I did not get one full bar out at a time because the bees built the comb at a slight diagonal on the bars. I just sliced through with a long knife but not as pretty as it could be. I am still working on the reason for this.

I love the pure white color of the wax on your top bar hive! I had to take some honey this past weekend on my strongest hive since it was full and I didn't have any empty supers/foundations. You were right-one foundation ( in my case mediums) full of honey equals about one quart. I extracted 16 medium frames and got 16.5 quarts of honey. Then I put the empty frames right back on the hive so we'll see what happens. I have one other hive that may be strong enough to extract in a few weeks. We'll see. I'm gald to have honey again and so is my family!

Congrats on a successful extraction! The"wet" supers should really get them interested in making more honey.
