RESULTS OF THIS SURVEY MAY HELP ALL OF US TO BECOME MORE INFORMED OF AREA ISSUES. IF THIS SURVEY PROVES DOABLE,WE COULD DO ADDITIONAL ONES TO HELP TARGET BEE ISSUES OF INTEREST. THIS COULD LEAD TO MORE SPECIFIC LEARNING SESSIONS DOWN THE ROAD.

Increasingly, bees are showing up with adapted parasites, and viral infections previously known to be seen in southern regions. We all know that these health problems can very quickly lead to climatic variation, but with adaptation happening so quickly, it does point out the need to stop relying on 'package' bees and focus on adaptation to our climate and try to stem the presence of bee viral and parasitic "free riders". Raising our own queens is definitely the way to genetic strength and overwintering successfully. USDA-Bee Lab in Louisiana and further sampling of feral colonies that have overwintered in the northern States has shown this conclusively this Spring. Agriculture Canada offers some great and not expensive training materials. I hope we can take advantage of these.
