Following are two recent bee events: 1. Beekeeping 101 at the Marquette Library had about 20 participants. The session was conducted by Michelle Landis, Lauri LaBumbard , and myself. Another session will be done at the March 31st UP Bee Conference at NMU. 2. The first organizational meeting of the Delta County Area Beekeepers was put together by Jessica LaMarsh at Bay College. A great turnout of 40 interested "bee people". Stay tuned for meeting times and future events---a beekeeping 101 is imminent! *** Stay warm and safe as a winter storm descends upon us. What a cold spell!! Since Christmas we have had 5 days below 0 and a high of only 14. Sure hope the bees are snuggling in--not as much snow for insulation that I would like. As I write this, the north wind is blowing , snow is falling hard, and the temp is 7.
For those interested, There are two dates that our club will be doing a beekeeping 101 session. From Michelle: It is that time of year again! The Superior Beekeeping Club is happy to be holding not just one but two beekeeping 101's this year. So if you or someone you know is wanting to get into beekeeping or you need a refresher join us on one of the two dates. We will go over all the basics about honey bees and their roles in the hive, what woodenware to start with, how to get your bees and more. For all people looking to order bees through the club this year I will send out an email as soon as I get more info. BEEKEEPING 101 January 13th at 10-1 at the Community room located in the lower level of Peter White Library or March 31st as a session at the all UP Bee conference.
