Mr. Matthew Barbercheck, a teacher at Gwinn Middle School, invited me in to his 7th grade industrial arts class. They are building bee hives as a class project and will eventually sell them to fund future projects. I was asked to talk about why bees are important and general bee biology. I ended with a power point presentation on Northern Beekeeping. They were an interesting and interested group of students. I enjoyed the time with them and hope to see them at my bee yard in the spring.
After 50 plus years in school and 7 out, it was back to school for me on Monday.

Thirty to forty bee people turned out Thursday evening for good food and bee talk. We even ended up with a nice article in the Marquette Mining Journal by Justin Marietti. I did a presentation entitled"Tracking the Bloom & Enhancing Bee Pasture". In this program, I stressed the importance of good "bee food" free of chemicals and some suggestions for creating more flowers for bees.
Michelle went over some of the details about a Yooper bus to the MBA convention in March--more info coming soon. Thank-you to Sarah Monte and the Marquette Food Co-op for their help and providing a great venue for our event. Note: Algomah Acres Meadery will be having a mead tasting hosted by Michigan Made in Harvey (by Togos) on Saturday, December 13. 6:00 PM at the Marquette Food Co-op. check bee page for details.
