How bout going out and taking a picture of your hive(s) and sending them via email? I will post them and assume it is ok to include your name and location unless you tell me different. I know this may be the case for some of our more "urban" areas. Probably would be easiest to send them to my [email protected] address. I will start it out--get your camera. GO TO BEEKEEPING PHOTOS TO VIEW!!
FEBRUARY BRINGS ITS SHARE OF COLD AND SNOW. It was -17 this morning--no wonder us beekeepers worry about our bees. Last year at this time, we were in what would turn out to be a big meltdown with a couple of 70 degree days. This left the bees confused for the whole season. Sure wish my hives were buried with all of this cold, but we take what we get.

A number of people have asked for pictures of the hive I just built. This"thick" hive is 1 3/4" wide in the walls instead of the usual 3/4". I am experimenting with a hive with more mass(like a tree) for better natural insulation, but have no idea if it will make a difference. It is an 8 frame because it is heavy enough already.
