* Upon returning, I checked my bees. The warm weather while I was gone, saved much digging of snow to get at the hives. Much to my dismay - not one hive survived-- 10 plus hives gone! This is a first in 25 plus years of keeping the bees. Last year it was 90% survival in a tough winter. A mild winter and 100% loss - "go figure."
I will soon be doing an autopsy and hopefully get a sense of what happened. Maybe a 3 way punch - mites, mice, pesticides.
* If you haven't checked out the new calendar page, you might take a look. Hopefully this will keep everyone updated about UP bee happenings. Let me know if you want something to be put on it.
* Check out the Upper Peninsula Beekeepers Map--see how we are growing. If you haven't put your "pin on the page", now is a good time. If you have any trouble doing so, let me know.
